Komen Recognizes Cory Watson as 2012 Sponsor of the Year

(Birmingham, AL) North Central Alabama Susan G. Komen for the Cure has named Birmingham law firm Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris 2012 Sponsor of the Year. The award recognizes the firm’s long- term support of the Race for the Cure and other Komen initiatives. The award was presented at the Annual Meeting of North Central Alabama Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris has sponsored the Race for the Cure since 2001. Shareholder Leila Watson has served as legal advisor for the local Komen Foundation chapter and has also served on the board. Watson says, “We continue to be impressed with Komen's devotion to helping women who have breast cancer and to developing scientific and medical research for a cure. Birmingham has such great cancer research centers and brilliant doctors and researchers, that it is rewarding to raise support going directly to them and our community.”

Komen presented the 2012 Community Partner of the Year award to Colonial Brookwood Village. Alexandra Harrison was recognized as 2012 Volunteer of the Year.

Cory Watson Sponsors Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

(Birmingham, AL) Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris is pleased to support the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure as a Diamond Sponsor of the 17th Annual Race for the Cure. The Race takes place Saturday, October 11, at Linn Park in downtown Birmingham. Proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and its mission of finding a cure for breast cancer.

Cory Watson's $10,000 donation to the 2008 Race for the Cure for North Central Alabama continues the firm's longstanding philanthropic commitment to supporting women's health issues. In 2008, the North Central Alabama chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has been able to provide more than $500,000 to support community-based screening, treatment, and breast health education programs in our area. Additionally the Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate contributed $193,000 to the Komen for the Cure National Research Grant Program - which has funded over $7 million in research funds to UAB for innovative research to find the cure for breast cancer.

Local Law Firm Donates Settlement Money to Freshwater Land Trust

Wendy Jackson, executive director of the Freshwater Land Trust, is presented with a $20,000 donation from Annesley DeGaris, shareholder of law firm Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris.

The law offices of Cory Watson Crowder & DeGaris, P.C., recently made a $20,000 donation to the Freshwater Land Trust, a locally-based 501(c)(3) organization. The donation represents the settlement fees awarded as the result of Byram v. USX Corporation, et al., regarding an alleged hazardous materials spill near areas of Opossum Creek and Valley Creek.
