Guidant Update

The Guidant saga grows worse. On January 23, 2006, Guidant Corporation announced that many of their pacemaker products may experience product failure due to faulty hermetic seals in 54,000 pacemakers manufactured from October 19, 1998 to December 5, 2000. This is an expansion of prior warnings and will likely result in an FDA recall. Hence, these particular devices will likely require surgical removal from patients, as opposed to mere medical monitoring.

Since February 2005, Cory, Watson, Crowder & DeGaris has been investigating and filing cases involving ICDs (internal cardio-defibrillators) and pacemakers made by Guidant Corporation, Medtronic, Inc. and St. Jude Medical, Inc. The attached list has grown over time as the Guidant recalls continue to expand. Now is a good time to re-examine your client inventories. Some of your earlier case rejections may now be viable cases. Many of you have heard of early settlement talks involving Guidant Corporation. It is too early to predict how this process will fare. We will keep all referring attorneys posted as information becomes known. It is not too late to represent clients injured by these defective products, and we welcome your referrals.
