Total hip replacements have several different metal and or plastic parts. The Durom Acetabular Component is one type of metal “cup” that can be used when performing hip replacements.

Product Status
The product was approved for marketing on a 510(k) application on March 16, 2006. Marketing began shortly after the approval. On July 22, 2008, Zimmer Holdings, Inc. announced that the sale and marketing of this product was voluntarily, temporarily suspended. 12,000 have been implanted in the United States. It is anticipated that up to 10% have already failed or will fail within the next 2 years.

Natural SOL from date of failure. In discovery states, may be able to file within SOL counting from market withdrawal on July 22, 2008.
