Several popular hormonal birth controls including implants, IUDs, injections, and patches have been associated with increased pressure on the brain. These birth controls may increase a woman’s chances of suffering harmful Pseudotumor Cerebri (PTC), a serious medical condition in which swelling increases inside the skull for no apparent reason. PTC occurs when fluid builds up in the brain, causing symptoms which mimic a real brain tumor.
In many cases of Pseudotumor Cerebri, the brain condition gets progressively worse. Patients can have vision problems, severe headaches, and the need for frequent lumbar punctures or shunt placements. Symptoms that may indicate PTC are dizziness and vertigo, optic nerve swelling, blurred or double vision, and Tinnitus (ringing of the ears).
If you have experienced serious side effects related to brain injury or have been diagnosed with Idipathic Intracranial Hypertension or Pseudotumor Cerebri after taking birth control, you may have grounds to file a lawsuit against the drug’s manufacturer to recover compensation for past and future medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.
